Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Project

Location: Ankleshwar, Bharuch District, Gujarat

IRG’s initiative for the GIDC area in Ankleshwar, District Bharuch, Gujarat, was a targeted program designed to provide essential and comprehensive services to pregnant and lactating women, as well as healthcare services to children between 0-6 years of age. With a focus on improving health indicators, the initiative aims to enhance the overall well-being of the community through capacity building, awareness, and strategic partnerships. A Reproductive and Child Health Centre was operationalized to provide all such services.

  1. Providing ANC, PNC to pregnant & lactating women and Healthcare services to children between 0-6yrs of age
  2. Improving health and nutrition level of 0 to 6 years old children, pregnant and lactating women;
  3. Increasing the capacity of the mother and other care providers to optimise the health and nutritional outcome of the child through IEC and SBCC;
  4. Building the capacity of Anganwadi workers, ASHA worker, Community members, local leaders and Panchayati Raj Institution leaders for improving maternal & child health;
  5. To contribute to overall improvement in the health indicators of the State.
During the course of the project, linkages were established with government and other stakeholders for promoting partnerships, advocacy, and synergy with Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS), Maternal, New-born & Child Health (MNCH), and other health and nutrition initiatives of the state government. Convergence was made among key departments such as Integrated Anganwadi Centre, Village Health and Sanitation Committee (VHSC), National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), etc. The women and children under 5 years of age were integrated into the mainstream public health system of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). In order to sustain the demand for services, the knowledge of women and men were improved. 36941 women benefitted from RCH services. 35553 children were immunized in the RCH Centre.
