Community Led Initiative for Care of Kids (CLICK) & RCH

Project Location: Solan District, Himachal

IRG’s health interventions work to improve the access to quality healthcare services for the poor and marginalized communities. IRG provides sustainable, integrated services to socio-economically marginalized communities. In Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, we have focused on improving maternal, infant, and child health via its Project CLICK and RCH. The project adopts a community-based, inter-sectoral approach to enhance nutrition and healthcare environments for both mothers and children under the age of five. By identifying the root causes of healthcare challenges, we work at the individual, community, and systemic levels to develop innovative solutions and help implement quality healthcare services.

Health on Wheels – HOW R U

In order to take healthcare to the doorsteps of the people, we operationalized fully equipped Mobile Medical Unit (MMU). The project used the following multipronged approach to effectively utilize the MMU:

  • Fixed movement schedule, fixed day service and fixed service delivery points while also ensuring that MMUs cover all the targeted villages appropriately.
  • Community Awareness through IEC/BCC materials.
  • Visibility, Branding and Media Engagement (Local, State and National) through stories and case presentations.
  • Creating referral linkages for higher level care.

As the project progressed, the success of the project greatly depended on the combined efforts of Mobile Medicare Unit (MMU) and Reproductive & Child Health Centre (RCH Centre). This unique combination of the healthcare delivery system ensured quality Primary Healthcare to the most vulnerable in the targeted geography. This strategy made quality impact and helped in reaching a greater number of beneficiaries, most of which were children, pregnant & lactating women, adolescent girls & boys, young women and middle-aged women and men.

80000+ beneficiaries were reached and benefitted from the preventive and promotive services provided. 8858 children were immunized.
